Blessed Are the Peacemakers

Matthew 5:9 (NIV)

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”

Jesus, the Christ was teaching His disciples in that verse above, and now to every generation, that Peace is something to be made. And all of us who heed His teaching are expected to be makers of Peace and thus, are absolutely called ‘Children of GOD’. Many understood it, In fact one of the greatest song of Peace is titled; ‘ Let There Be Peace on Earth And Let It Begin In Me’. This song written by Jill Jackson-Miller and Sy Miller in 1955 became famous since that time, and still we can hear this popular song especially Christmas time. Here it goes:

"Let there be peace on earth

And let it begin with me.

Let there be peace on earth

The peace that was meant to be.

With God as our father

Brothers all are we.

Let me walk with my brother

In perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me

Let this be the moment now.

With every step I take

Let this be my solemn vow.

To take each moment

And live each moment

With peace eternally.

Let there be peace on earth,

And let it begin with me."

Many loved this song, but not many are making peace. Many also know the popular expression; “Make Peace not War!”, as War for sure like Peace, is also something that is created by humans. Peace is the one of the most important to have. Yet, many are not making it. There are thousands quotations about Peace. Here are two of those and my favorites:

“Peace does not mean an absence of conflicts; differences will always be there. Peace means solving these differences through peaceful means; through dialogue, education, knowledge; and through humane ways.” – Dalai Lama XIV.

“If you want to make peace with your enemy, you have to work with your enemy. Then he becomes your partner.” – Nelson Mandela

Now, according to the Holy Scriptures in the New Testament, Jesus commissioned His apostles and all His disciples to bring Peace to every place they entered. (Matthew 10:12-13, Luke 10:5-6) When we claim that we are true Christians or true disciples of Christ, then we are going to be and it is a must for us to be Ambassadors of Peace. But we cannot give what we don’t have, if we have no Jesus in us to be our Peace.

Ephesians 2:14-17 says, “For Jesus Christ himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near.”

Jesus Christ is the Son of the Father GOD in the Highest Heaven. He made Peace (that we are supposed enjoying now as Christians), for us to become Children of GOD. If we claim that we know Jesus Christ and His words, then we surely do not stop promulgating Peace, the kind of Peace that He gave us. Jesus said in John 14:27, “ Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

We love Jesus, we love Peace, but we should make it happen now, and may the Holy Spirit help us for the Praise and Glory of GOD, our Father. AMEN
