Keep the One Light Glowing for You

John 12:35-36(RSVCE)

“Jesus said to them, “The light is with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light, lest the darkness overtake you; he who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.”

We know Jesus Christ is the Light of the world and not only that, He is the light that can never be extinguished, darkness can never put Him out (John 8:12,1:5). But why Jesus is telling His disciples in those days and us nowadays to walk while we have the light?

During those days, Jesus was telling His disciples that while He was there, they should believe in Him before He went to Heaven so that they may become God’s children (John 1:12). And as doubtful as they were, Jesus did not gave up on them, showing Himself in His glorified body after His resurrection and eradicated their doubtfulness so that they will not walk in darkness and attained the promise to have the light of life (Luke 24:36-49, John 8:12). St. John proclaimed this in his letter 1 John 1: 5-7 which says, “This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not live according to the truth; but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”

Nowadays, we are also advised by the Holy Scripture to walk while we have the light. Jesus Christ went to Heaven already, but left us the Light; The Word. John 1:1-2,4-5 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

The Word that was given to His disciples (John 17:8) was their light, (Psalms 119:105). The same Word, was and will be the Light for us too. If we will walk through the Word that we heard from the Gospel of Christ, then we will receive the promise of son ship of Light. But there’s a warning given to us: a warning given to make the best of this privilege while we have it, because there’s a danger of losing it.

There are many people nowadays that are hearing the Gospel of Salvation, but tend to forget it and take it for granted. Many see the Light, but not focus on it and tend to walk in darkness rather than using that One Light that does not flicker to guide their path.

We have to recall The Story of Three Magi or The Three Wise Men. When they saw the light, they did not just stared at it, they walked in the light and let it guide them. The result of doing so make them victorious in their journey to Bethlehem, the darkness of King Herod did not overtook them. After seeing the source of light, Jesus Christ, they received the light in them and keep themselves in the light. The evidence was so clear that they became wiser than they were. They escape the darkness of Herod by departing Bethlehem to another way back to their own country.

St James had advised us in James 1:22-25 to also walk in the light, not just seers only. He said “ But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who observes his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But he who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer that forgets but a doer that acts, he shall be blessed in his doing.

Omission is a sin. “Whoever knows what is right to do and fails to do it, for him (Jesus) it is sin.”( James 4:17) Those of us who see the light, who hear the Gospel of Salvation will be overtaken by darkness if we do not walk in the truth. GOD will declare us guilty on the day of judgment. We already see Him came as our Savior but if we reject to live in His Word, we will be judged. (John 12:48). Jesus said in John 9:41, “If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, ‘We see,’ your guilt remains.

On the other hand, the Good News is, if we walk in His Words, we will receive Eternal Life with Him (John 3:16). So let’s take this chance while we are still seeing the Light to walk under this Light. Do not be the rich man who met the poor Lazarus in the Scripture. He did not gave importance to the light. Time came in the story that he cannot do anything when he died and darkness surrounded him.

Keep Jesus Christ glowing for us and in us. Let’s continue to walk according to His Words. Regret and gnashing of teeth will come to those who live in darkness as judgment to those who ignore His Words. John 3:19 says, “ And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”

Ours is the choice. Be guided everyone by that One Light glowing for us. Be blessed! AMEN
